The Sacramento Northern was a electric interurban railway that grew to connect Chico and Sacramento with Oakland and the San Francisco Bay — over 180 miles, one of the longest interurbans in the country, complete with a train ferry across the Carquinez Strait.
▚ Under Western Pacific
The SN came under Western Pacific control and gradually dieselized, dropping passenger service and its overhead wire to become a WP freight subsidiary switching the Sacramento Valley.
